National Holiday

Yesterday Oct 1st was National Holiday (国慶節) in China, which is the day when Mao Zedong proclaimed the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. Due to this, there is no class till this weekend at HKUST. This is a good time to review classes last month and work on a lot of homework. What I have to do for the classes is much more than I expected, so I’m thinking of dropping a class out of 4 classes I take now. In order to fully understand the content of classes, it is essential to review it several times. Given the time for balancing the classes and research, 3 classes seem to be enough to me.

Today Oct 2nd is the day after Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋節), witch is one of the most important traditional ceremonies in Greater China. While Mid-Autumn Festival is a national holiday in China and Taiwan, the day after it is holiday in Hong Kong and Macao. During this festival, people hava a habit of eating mooncakes (月餅) that are Chinese bakery products look round like the moon. The filling is usually made from red bean or lotus seed paste. Now it seems mooncakes are popular presents for business customers friends, or close persons. I’ll try to find a good one at a supermarket.
